Valentine's Day

On Sunday, Jeff and I went on a date for Valentine's Day. We had a great meal at Zingerman's, and a good time being out together, just the two of us (this does not happen much).

More importantly, however, Juan Pablo also had a Valentine's Day date. While Jeff and I were out, he went out with my sister Natalia (Tia Chu). This ended up being quite a big deal. While we were in the car on the way to go pick up his date (he's still 14 years away from a driver's license, and his tricycle doesn't have a sidecar), we talked about ladies (damas) and gentlemen (caballeros) and the things that gentlemen do for ladies on dates. The main idea we intended to communicate was that he should be good for his aunt, but our Juan Pablo took the whole thing very seriously. According to Tia Chu, he was a perfect little gentleman. He was very polite, remembering to say "please" the whole time, and kept referring to her as "mi dama (my lady)". They started out with dinner at Cosi...
Juan Pablo picked out their table for two.
They lingered over dinner, talking and having fun, and then Juan Pablo saw the Ben and Jerry's sign across the street, and suggested that they go for an ice cream. He got a chocolate fudge ice cream in a cone with chocolate and sprinkles. He chose a booth to sit in, so that he could snuggle up to Tia Chu better...and get chocolate ice cream on her sweater...Then they went around the corner to Borders, to play and read books until Jeff and I met up with them. Here is Natalia's account of the date:
"Dinner at Cosi, a lengthy discussion about Veggie Tales and who likes it (Abuelo y Abuela are huge fans according to Juan Pablo), waiting for the red hand to turn into the person and having an older couple join in during the "no, no, no," chant followed by cheers of "si!" and "yes!" when the light changed, hugging me all the way across the street, dessert at Ben&Jerry's (Que hace Ben?!), cuddling in the booth, singing the intro to Veggie Tales at the top of his lungs, ice cream cones covered in chocolate and sprinkles, holding my hand all the way to Borders, books and toys at Borders, most polite caballero ever and best Valentine's day yet!"That's our little man!

We absolutely loved this Valentine's Day story -- a treat for us to read -- and for all of you and Natalia too!
