Six Minutes

This afternoon, at 5:22pm, I pulled dinner out of the oven. Then I took Ana Luisa downstairs with me to get the laundry out of the dryer. We brought the laundry back upstairs...meaning I balanced the basket on my hip with one hand while holding her hand to help her walk back up. Juan Pablo met us at the top of the stairs, and announced that he had pooped (he had asked me to put a diaper on him for this purpose earlier). I cleaned him up, got his underwear back on him, then rinsed off the dirty cloth diaper before putting it in the diaper pail. After washing my hands, I went back to the laundry basket, and with Ana Luisa's "help" pulled out all our bath towels, which were part of the load. After folding them and putting them away, I opened the front door so the kids could look out for Jeff, who was on the way home. Then I sat down to fold the rest of the laundry. As I did this, I glanced at the clock. The time? 5:28pm. I had to look again, just to make sure, because it didn't seem like all of that could have possibly happened in only six minutes. It had. No wonder I'm so tired...

This is just one of those things that I think I should record, in case someday I forget the intensity of life with young children.
