Juan Pablo is an artist. Last summer he started drawing in our driveway with sidewalk chalk, sitting there for hours at a time filling up the whole space with his little drawings that were actually starting to look like things at the time. Once it got too cold to draw outside, he moved his artwork inside. We made him a special drawing table, a coffee table with a paper roll holder attached to the side so he can just move the paper along as he goes. We buy 100-foot long rolls of paper, and in the winter he would fill up the roll, front and back, with drawings of animals, dinosaurs and scenes from whatever book or DVD he was into at the time, in less than a week.
Now that it's summer and he can draw outside again, he hasn't been using his drawing table quite as much, but from time to time, the inspiration strikes when the drawing table happens to be closer. The other morning called to tell me that he was drawing a Mass. Here is the little artist, still working on his masterpiece:

And the finished product:

On the top right is the crucified Christ hovering over the altar, on which you can clearly see a host and chalice. A close up of Jesus (please note the belly button, which I like to think showcases my son's grasp of the
hypostatic union):

Then on the center/left there is the Holy Spirit, portrayed here as a large blue bird. The Holy Spirit is flying over a faithful churchgoer sitting in the pew singing, as evidenced by the music notes above his head.

Since last summer Juan Pablo has probably made thousands of drawings. While there have been some that I have really loved for various reasons, I never had a favorite...until now. This is definitely it. And Juan Pablo is definitely my favorite artist.
