Juan Pablo, hard at work shoveling snow. He was playing by himself in the backyard, and I looked out the window to find him trying to shovel the driveway. Sweet, sweet boy.
Watching TV one winter afternoon. Shirtless, of course, but with a blanket to keep him warm, and his stuffed animals set up so that they could see the tv too. And making a crazy face, because he saw me coming with the camera.
"Meeting" their new little sister. The kids knew we wanted to adopt another little brother or sister, but we decided not to tell them anything about Teresita until we had passed court, because of all the uncertainties with the process. We made them each a little photo album with pictures of her, and gave them each their album when we were finally able to tell them about their new little sister. It was such a sweet moment. Ana Luisa got the biggest smile on her face, and was for a while, speechless (a rare thing for our little chatterbox), and just beaming as she looked through the pictures of her new little sister. After a little while, once the news had maybe sunk in a little bit, she then started talking about all the things we're going to need for our new baby...bottles, a crib, a high chair, a car seat...she's going to be a great big sister. Juan Pablo was very serious, spent a while examining the pictures, then announced, "I'm going to go draw her!" He got up with his photo album and went to his drawing table to draw a picture of Teresita...which we put in his album. I loved that they each reacted in a way that is so unique to their little personalities.
Ana Luisa...crazy girl. "Look, it's my crown! I need to save it to show Papa when he gets home from work!" Her "crown" is about 100 layers of tape stuck to one small piece of paper. She went through a roll of tape in five days making such creations.
Ever wondered what Juan Pablo will look like ate age 20? Here it is! He wanted me to take a picture of him, and for some reason the camera made him age 16 years.
These two are best friends. They love each other so much.
Our last snowfall of the year...most likely, as it was in the 70's this weekend and the kids put on their swimsuits and played in their little swimming pool in the backyard. Crazy how in less than a month we go from making a family of snowmen (papa, mama, Juan Pablo, Ana Luisa and Teresita, of course), to swimming!
At least we got those snowmen made. Juan Pablo prayed for snow almost daily during our unusually mild winter because he wanted to be able to build a snowman.
And after I took these pictures of the kids with their family of snowmen, I put the camera in my pocket. We went in the house a little while later, and in the chaos of trying to get everyone's wet snowpants/coats/boots off on our tiny side entrance before the kids dragged snow and mud all through the house, I forgot about the camera and it went through the wash with all the snowy, muddy clothes. We were able to get our last batch of pictures off the memory card, but the camera, sadly no longer works and we haven't gotten a new one yet. And so almost a month of our kids lives has not been recorded in pictures...we'll have to get a new one soon so one day we have pictorial evidence to show the kids that in 2012, they were able to go swimming in March.
