Happy 4th Birthday Ana Luisa!

Have I really not updated this blog since mid-April?  Not sure how that happened.

Anyway a very belated Happy Birthday to our sweet 4-year old girl!

Don't worry, we did remember her birthday on the actual day.  I just never posted anything about it here.

Ana Luisa had been planning her fourth birthday ever since Juan Pablo's birthday last August (at least).  She even made a list, which was a piece of paper with the numbers 1-4 written on it.  She informed me that they stood for the following things:

1. Gifts
2. Mac and cheese
3. Salad (everyone has to eat some otherwise they don't get cupcakes)
4. Cupcakes with butterflies on them

Gifts are of course her favorite, so the first thing she did when she woke up was open her gifts from mama and papa.  A skirt and sweater (I love her face in this picture)...

And a doll that looks like her (oh Juan Pablo)...
Whenever she receives a gift Ana Luisa has to use it immediately.  So she immediately put on her new skirt and sweater.  She also took her doll everywhere the rest of the day, even to ice skating lessons.  She earned her Snowplow Sam 1 badge at skating lessons that day, which made her very proud.
We came home from skating, and had our lunch.  As we were finishing up, the doorbell rang.  We went to open it, and on the front porch was a huge box.  WITH ANA LUISA'S NAME ON IT.  She could not possibly have been more excited.  She opened it to find a bright pink suitcase, a gift from Tio Fernando.  He visited us last summer and Ana Luisa loved him and declared him one of her best friends, especially after she found out that they almost have the same birthday.

Later that afternoon Abuelo, Abuela, Tia Padu and Tio Sebas all came to dinner.  There were more gifts, including one that Juan Pablo had made at Abuela's house the day before.  Juan Pablo LOVES to make gifts for people, and Ana Luisa LOVES receiving gifts so the two of them make a great pair.  He's always making her little books and cards and drawings and she loves them and treasures them all.  We had gotten a scrapbooking album and printed off some pictures so that Juan Pablo could make Ana Luisa a book.  She of course loves it, and still sits down to look at it almost every day.

I am happy to report that everyone followed Ana Luisa's rules and ate their salad (it helped that she kept serving us all more), so we were all allowed to eat the butterfly cupcakes that Abuela made.

Instead of a birthday party with friends this year, Ana Luisa chose to have "girl time" at Somerset Mall with her friend Gianna and Gianna's mom.  The four of us spent an afternoon there, having lunch, and visiting Ana Luisa's favorite store, Pottery Barn Kids.  The girls both wore their fancy clothes and brought their little purses.  They ooohed and ahhed over everything.  We went into The Body Shop, and let them put on a little eyeshadow...which when four year olds are applying it themselves ends up being a lot of eyeshadow.  Gianna chose green and Ana Luisa chose purple, so then they walked around the mall with bright green and purple eyeshadow all over their faces.  When we dropped Gianna and her mom off at their house, I asked Ana Luisa if she'd had a good time.  Her response? "I felt like I was in a dream the whole time....like I was in ballet class."  I think that's a yes.

At age four, Ana Luisa is such a girly girl, loves shoes and dressing up, going to the mall, lip gloss and painting her nails.  When she grows up, she wants to have two jobs, one at Briarwood Mall at the pretzel store, and one at Somerset Mall at Pottery Barn Kids.  She is smart, already starting to read and sound words out.  She loves to sing and dance.  She is always the first one up in the morning, as soon as the sunlight starts to come in through the cracks around the shade in her room.   She and Juan Pablo are best friends and love each other so much, but her relationship with Teresita is growing every day too.  They already have some special games that the two of them love to play together.  She really is so sweet, loves to help around the house, and makes us all laugh all the time.
We love you Ana Luisa!  Happy 4th Birthday!
